2011 ITC Hall of Fame Follow Up

Last night was the 2011 Idaho Technology Council Hall of Fame. As expected, it was a great event filled with seeing old friends, meeting new people, and being inspired by innovative Idahoans that have ventured forth and made their mark on the world. Below are some of my thoughts regarding the evening.

First, Rich Raimondi did a great job as the Master of Ceremony.

Second, I greatly enjoyed hearing about and from Jack Lemley and Steve Hodges. Steve’s message regarding his success as a serial entrepreneur due largely to surrounding himself with great people really resonated with me.

Third, Phil Bond did a great job engaging the audience with his informative, and at times humorous, keynote address.

Finally, below are the winners of the Idaho Innovation Awards:

Commercialized Innovation of the Year

Early Stage Innovation of the Year

Innovative Company of the Year

Innovator of the Year

Congratulations to all the winners!

8 Types of Leader

I’m a big fan of Tom Fishburne’s business cartoons.  This week he’s created one entitled 8 Types of Leader.

While these eight archetypes by no means cover the universe of leadership styles, I’m pretty sure that wasn’t his intent.  Instead, he’s highlighted several common styles that most business professionals will have likely experienced firsthand.  I know I’ve seen all eight.  How about you?

Top 10 Innovation Journals

Crossan and Apaydin (2010) conducted a systematic review of the innovation literature over a 27 year period (1981-2008) with the goal of providing “…a comprehensive overview and a conceptual, rather than an empirical, consolidation” of it (p. 1157).

Starting with an initial sample of 10,946 papers, the authors grouped the articles into the following: (1) reviews and meta-analyses; (2) highly cited papers; and (3) recent papers.

The recent papers group included articles published between 2006 and 2008. Based on their review, the Top 10 innovation journals, based on the number of papers published on the topic during that time period, are:

  1. Research Policy
  2. Strategic Management Journal
  3. Journal of Product Innovation Management
  4. Management Science
  5. Academy of Management Journal
  6. Organization Science
  7. Regional Studies
  8. Administrative Science Quarterly
  9. Academy of Management Review
  10. Rand Journal of Economics
