My name is Eric Shaver. This blog will focus on topics that meet at the intersection of people, technology, design, and innovation.
My goal is that it will be a venue to educate readers about the discipline of human factors and ergonomics and to discuss its’ relevance to both the business world and everyday life.
I work as a senior consultant with Benchmark Research & Safety, Inc. in Boise, Idaho. Throughout my career, my work has emphasized achieving a good fit between people and technology to facilitate their safety, performance, and satisfaction. Specifically, I provide consultation and professional services for a variety of areas, including:
- Human factors & ergonomics – office ergonomics; task analysis; job assessments; accident analysis & prevention; research
- Usability testing & expert evaluations
- Litigation support & expert witness testimony – human factors & ergonomics; product & occupational safety; warnings & risk communication; slips, trips, & falls
- Design – user-centered; evidence-based architectural
- Research – surveys; focus groups; field studies; lab experiments
- Training – safety information design, developlement, & evaluation; applied human factors & ergonomics (i.e., decision making & problem solving, usability, user-centered design, etc.)
My educational background includes a Ph.D. in Ergonomics Psychology from North Carolina State University and a M.S. in Human Factors Psychology and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Idaho.
